Micro-Needling and Plasma Rich Platelets
What is Micro-Needling?
Skin-needling is a recently embraced procedure here in the US. Skin-needling, also called Micro-needling or collagen induction therapy (CIT), has been a standard procedure in Europe for decades. Advances over the years led to the development of automated micro- needling. This simple mechanical device based on fine needle penetration can also deliver some of the same benefits of laser at a more affordable price point.
How does it work?
The premise is simple – create a small wound and the skin will respond with collagen production (up to 200% more) and new skin cells. Depending on the depth of the needle penetration, the needling pen can offer skin rejuvenation levels from the simple enhancement of product absorption to the clinical treatment of scars and wrinkles. Treatment on the face and neck are the primary locations, but skin needling can successfully be used on any area of the body… especially hands.
What conditions can be treated or improved?
- Mild to moderate acne scarring; any new or old scars
- Traumatic scars
- Hyperpigmentation, dark spots, melasma
- Under eye wrinkles and loose skin
- Moderate skin laxity
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Thinning hair
- Skin texture and pore size
- Stretch marks
- Hair regrowth
- Skincare product delivery
What does the procedure involve?
The skin is cleaned and numbing cream may be applied to lessen discomfort. For better results we use a collagen-stimulating products like Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin-C serum, a skin lightener for pigmentation, or even Platelet Rich Plasma… AKA PRP (more about PRP below) during the procedure. A small handheld pen like device with a sterile, disposable tip with 12 tiny needles is then used to pierce the skin. Our needling pen’s multi-speed and adjustable needle depth allow needles to pierce the skin’s layer at 90 degrees and increase the absorption of products. After the treatment, soothing Vitamin-C serum or Hyaluronic acid are used to hydrate, heal and protect the skin.
What are the benefits of Medical Micro-Needling?
- Increases the effectiveness and penetration of active ingredients in topical preparation
- Stimulates circulation and collagen production
- Medical grade titanium needles makes it non-allergenic to human tissue
- Cost effective compared to other resurfacing procedures
- Can be performed on all skin types, including ethnic skin
- It can be used on all areas of the scalp, face, body including fragile skin like around eyes, mouth, neck, and hands.
When will I see results?
Patients typically notice an immediate glow, but visible improvement will take about 2-4 weeks and can continue for up to 6 months. (Disclaimer: Results may vary)
How many treatments will I need?
A series of 3-6 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart is ideal for optimal results. Some conditions like deep wrinkles, advanced photo-aging, stretch marks, and acne scars may need 6-8 treatments. (Disclaimer: Results may vary)
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy
What is PRP?
Platelet Rich Plasma is a concentration of platelets in the blood that are crucial to wound healing. When used for skin rejuvenation, PRP releases growth factors into the skin to expedite the body’s own repair process and stimulate new collagen and elastin…up to 1000% more! (Disclaimer: Results may vary)
What does the procedure entail?
A small blood sample is taken from your own body and the PRP is separated from the other components.
The PRP is then topically applied to the skin immediately followed by a micro-needling procedure.
The micro-channels created by micro-needling provide direct pathways to the deeper layers of skin for optimal wound healing. After micro-needling, the remaining amount of PRP may be injected intra-dermally to cheeks, nasial-labial folds, marionette line, temples and lips for added volume and collagen production.
Micro-needling with PRP application is an ideal treatment for smoothing fine lines, wrinkles, and scars or even increasing plumpness and overall rejuvenation of the skin. It’s basically a super-charged version of our basic micro-needling treatment giving superior results in a shorter amount of time. (Disclaimer: Results may vary)
In between treatments we recommend a Glycolic chemical peel treatment.
*Glycolic is an exfoliator derived from Sugar Cane, which safely removes the outer layer of dead skin cells on the surface your skin, bring fresh new skin to the surface. This is beneficial for those who are looking for ingredients that help with anti-aging, such as sun spots or age spots and help those with acne-prone and blackhead-prone skin. Glycolic acid is safe for all skin tones and is best for normal/dry/combination skin type.
* Additional Cost
PRP does not pose any danger of allergy, hypersensitivity, or foreign-body reaction and it is a safe choice for many patients.
